Description

A modern, high-tech Army needs highly trained men and women to keep equipment working. The role of the REME is to do just that; maintain, repair and manufacture equipment to keep battle winning aircraft, tanks and weapons in fighting order. The REME exists to ‘keep the punch in the Army’s fist’.

In 1941 the War Cabinet directed Sir William Beveridge to carry out an enquiry into the employment of technical manpower in the Services. As a result of the recommendations of this enquiry, the Royal Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers was formed on 1st October 1942.

In conjunction with HQ REME, the British Forces Philatelic Service has produced a commemorative cover to mark their 75th Anniversary on the 1st October 2017.

This very striking cover bears an image, taken from a painting by the renowned war artist Matthew Cook, depicting a REME recovery vehicle towing a Warrior Armoured Personnel Carrier. A personalised smiler stamp showing an engine pack being removed from equipment will be cancelled by the unique British Forces Postal Service special handstamp No 3207.

An information insert will be included and this and the cover will be presented in a cellophane sleeve to create a high quality souvenir to mark this anniversary.

You can order these covers via mail order by sending a cheque made out to BFPS CIC and sending it to BFPS, The Old Post Office, Links Place, Elie, Fife, KY9 1AX.
