After taking off on 11th July 2018 in Arizona, the Zephyr S unmanned aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space logged a maiden stratospheric flight of over 25 days – the longest-duration flight ever made without refuelling. Following this flight, the UK Ministry of Defence ordered three of these systems.
Sheets of specially designed Royal Mail personal smiler® stamps were flown aboard Zephyr S to mark this historic flight and are to be used to service commemorative covers ordered by the Defence company. The stamps will be cancelled by a BFPS special handstamp bearing the unique BFPS number 3231.
Fifty of these covers, along with a very limited amount of the stratospherically flown stamp sheets, have been made available to BFPS for sale and will be issued on the 20th November 2020. These superb looking covers will be a numbered limited edition and will cost just £10 each.
